Something To Think About: True Worship

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 3:17 NIV)

Some people think of worship as just singing a slow song or hymn to God, however, true worship is not just about singing. We worship God whenever we do anything in His name. When you are at work, and you're carrying out your activities as if you are going them directly for God, this is worship. When you clean your home and do it as if God is your house guest, this is worship. When we do things with this mindset, we do them to the best of our ability because we know that we're not doing it for man. True worship is seeing God in all that we do and say. So when your manager asks you to do a task, no matter how mundane it may be, do it as if it's the most important job in the world. When you clean the dishes, do it as if it's the most important job in the world. As you're cooking your families dinner, do it if it's the most important job in the world. TRULY WORSHIP HIM

The Book of Revelations: Not to be feared

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. (Revelation 1:3 NIV)

Out of all the books in the bible, the book of Revelations is the one that many people are afraid to read. All their attention is placed on the beast and the time of tribulation and they become fearful. But from the above scripture we should understand that this book is a blessing. It tells us of God's plan for that time. It shouldn't invoke fear in us but a sense preparation, that we are ready for Christ's second arrival.

As children of God remember that we have nothing to do with the beast. Whatever turmoil may be placed on the earth at that time is not our portion, for we will be in the presence of the Lord.

Abrahamic Covenant (Part One)

Genesis 12:2 “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shall be a blessing.”
Blessing here simply means “Increase,” we can as well say God made a covenant of increase with Abraham.
What is a covenant? A covenant is an agreement between two parties. God enter into an agreement with Abraham, it was an agreement of increase in every area of Abraham’s life. God made a covenant with Abraham that required nothing of Abraham. God determined to call out special people for himself through whom He would bring blessing to all nations.

Seven steps of Faith that Abraham took in surrendering his will to God
·         He surrender his native land
·         He surrender his family
·         He surrender the plain of Jordan
·         He surrender the riches of Sodom
·         He surrender self “Circumcision”
·         He surrender Ishmael
·         He surrender Isaac

Each painful surrendering was followed by divine revelation of God’s blessings. The more we lay aside self, in the process of our work with God the more of God we see.  God relationship with Abraham came to full manifestation as result of Abraham faith in God. He never stagger at the promise of God, instead he was strong in faith. The life Abraham lived was a product of what He believed.

However what we call the Jewish religion and tradition today was the life Abraham lived by faith. Simply because his descendant could not enter this life (covenant) by faith they ended up carving out religion out of it, which ended up in works instead of faith (Hebrews 3:15-19; Galatians 3). Just as the Church has replaced the gospel of grace that Christ preaches with the message of works (Galatians 3:1).  Scriptures further reveals to us the Jews style of worship in Matthew 15:6-9:

“And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hyprocrites. Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying. This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips, but their hearth is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines with the commandment of men.”

Christ as a Leader

      (Part One)
Through out the various chapters of the Bible the charismatic and transformational leadership of Jesus clearly illustrates Him as a great teacher. Jesus as a leader represents Himself as a doer rather than a talker. He instructed others to keep God’s commandments and model them as well.
Jesus in His teaching ministry lead the people by example and His responds to criticism show the quality that Christ possess as a leader. His teachings never contradict his act; instead His life styles were lesson to those around Him.
As Christians we are met to take heed to ourselves, less our life styles would not contradict our doctrine.”Jesus life always portray His message, He provides Himself as a good example to others; especially when He told Peter to go to the river and catch a fish so that they can pay the tax man his money, this single act is enough to prove to the world that Christ was a role model. The way Christ lived His life when He was on earth never oppose what He teach.
However, the greatest epistles we can present to the world around us is living epistles.

Something To Think About

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? (Romans 2:1-3 NIV)

Don't look down on those who do not know God. The fact that we do does not make us better than them, we are just in a better position. Those of us who know God are not perfect, but we are made perfect in Him. If we are true to ourselves we know that we don't always do what is right, the only difference between believers and people of the world is that we have a God who can put it right.
People of the world need our prayer, encouragement and example. Not our judgement.

Something To Think About

Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God; if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you." (Romans 2:17-24 NIV)

Hypocrisy doesn't only affect the way that people view us, it affects how others see God. When we behave in a way that is contrary to what we claim to believe (and condemn others for doing the same thing), it turns God into a joke, people don't want to follow Him because they think they will turn into hypocrites too. If we want those in the world to become members of the body of Christ, we have to show them that it turns us into people filled with love and compassion and not self righteousness.

Something To Think About

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4 NIV)

During troubling times we shouldn't think that God has abandoned us, but merely that it's an opportunity for us to grow in strength. With any circumstance that we find ourselves in, God gives us the tools to get through.

Something to Think About

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. (Romans 1:21-23 NIV)

It is not enough jut to know God, we should give Him praise and glorify His name each day. We have to continually remind ourselves what God has done for us. Spending time with God or just even thinking about Him makes it harder for the enemy to distract us with things that will take us out of God's will. If we keep ourselves in God's word, no one will be able to fool or mislead us. Being a child of God isn't just something that you confess with your lips, it is something that should be seen in our everyday lives.

Something To Think About

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:3-7 NIV)

Just as God's kindness washed over us, saving us from certain death. We should show kindness to those who have not yet found Him as we were once in the same situation.

Week of Fasting

We are embarking on a week of prayer an fasting. Everyone is free to join us as we take time to be in God's word and communicate with Him.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 57:6

They spread a net for my feet—
I was bowed down in distress.
They dug a pit in my path—
but they have fallen into it themselves. (Psalm 57:6 NIV)

People may try to harm us, but we should rest assured because no weapons formed against us shall prosper. Those who wish us harm will have it placed upon themselves. so leave them for God to deal with.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 7:15-16

Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out
falls into the pit they have made. The trouble they cause recoils on them;
their violence comes down on their own heads. (Psalm 7:15, 16 NIV)

A warning to those who do evil. All the schemes they plan against others will be returned to them. The righteous should not think that because these people continue in their ways, that God has ignored their actions. In everything we do, we are sowing a seed that we will one day reap. Ensure that what you reap is something that will bring you joy and not regret.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 34:1-22

I will extol the Lord at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me;
let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are attentive to their cry; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
to blot out their name from the earth. The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles,
but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones,
not one of them will be broken. Evil will slay the wicked;
the foes of the righteous will be condemned. The Lord will rescue his servants;
no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. (Psalm 34:1-22 NIV)

God is always there for us whenever we need Him. All we have to do is trust in Him. If we put our trust in Him, there will be nothing to fear or be anxious of. He has already made a way out of every situation, He has laid victory before us. We only need to stand in Him and draw on the strength that He has made available to us.

Psalm of the Day : Psalm 31:6

Psalm 31:6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols;as for me, I trust in the Lord.

What is an idol, it can not move, speak, think or feel. But God's Spirit moves around us, He speaks to us each day, He is always mindful of us, and He feels what we feel. Why put your trust in something that was made by man, put your trust in the One that made man.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 27:4

One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple. (Psalm 27:4 NIV).

What better place is there than being in the presence of the Lord. Basking in His glory, can not be compared to anything. No palace, mansion or island paradise can bring this kind of joy.

Wednesday, 25 July 2012

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 25:1

In you, Lord my God,
I put my trust. (Psalm 25:1 NIV)

We can trust God in and with everything. When we give all that we are to Him, He will be faithful and keep His promises concerning us.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 19:1

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (Psalm 19:1 NIV)

When we look around we're reminded of God's glory. Everything we see shows us how great He is.

Proverb of the Day: Proverbs 14:30

A heart at peace gives life to the body,
but envy rots the bones. (Proverbs 14:30 NIV)

When we are envious of others it builds up bitterness within. But when we can look upon others and feel happy about their achievements, there is an inner peace because we understand that we all have our own portion of blessings and should rejoice at each one, even when they are not ours.

Friday, 13 July 2012

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 12:6

And the words of the Lord are flawless,
like silver purified in a crucible,
like gold refined seven times. (Psalm 12:6 NIV)

We can trust that every word God says us true. His words are purer than silver or gold. He is a faithful God who will do what He says He will do. No word of a lie can come from His lips, not even so called 'White Lies'. Trust in Him.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 11:1

In the Lord I take refuge.
How then can you say to me:
"Flee like a bird to your mountain. (Psalm 11:1 NIV)

God is our shelter, He is out strong tower. In times of trouble we can find rest and peace in Him. There is no need for us to try and run away from the situation, because God will see us through.

Tuesday, 10 July 2012

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 10:14

But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;
you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;
you are the helper of the fatherless. (Psalm 10:14 NIV)

God hears our cries, He knows when we are in need. He gives us the grace to get through every and any situation. To the fatherless He is a father, to the motherless He is a mother. God is to each one of us all that we need. We should commit ourselves to God, because He has already committed Himself to us.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 8:8

He rules the world in righteousness
and judges the peoples with equity. (Psalm 9:8 NIV)

God is the perfect judge. He judges fairly, and without partiality. He's not like man who can be influenced, and prejudiced. God doesn't look down on any man or hold another in higher regard. We can feel secure in the knowledge that God is in control.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 8:4

what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them? (Psalm 8:4 NIV)

God's heart for us goes beyond what we can imagine. We've done nothing to deserve this love. He loves us jut because He loves us.

Sunday, 8 July 2012

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 7:17

I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness;
I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High. (Psalm 7:17 NIV)

We are not made righteous because of what we have done or try to do. It is because of God's righteousness and what He has done that we are made righteous. For this reason we should praise His name.

Friday, 6 July 2012

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 6:10

All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish;
they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame. (Psalm 6:10 NIV).

When God comes to our aid and brings us out of adversity, those who were against us will be left in awe. They will think of all the things they said and thought about us, they will remember how they looked down on us and how they mocked our faith. Everything they planned against us, God will use to lift us up and glorify His name.

Thursday, 5 July 2012

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 5:11

But let all who take refuge in you be glad;
let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may rejoice in you. (Psalm 5:11 NIV)

When we take refuge in the Lord we know that no harm can come to us. For this reason we should be joyful because nothing that comes out way can bring us down.

Wednesday, 4 July 2012

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 4:8

In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8 NIV).

When we trust in the Lord and put all our hope in Him, there is nothing that we need to be anxious about. He watches over us, He goes before us, He walks by our side, and He comes behind us. We have nothing to fear when we close our eyes because His presence is our shield.
